- Keyword Search
- AND searches
- To search for archived news pages that contain all keywords
- entered, type in the keywords, separated by spaces or an asterisk.
- Example
- If you enter [baseball soccer] or [baseball*soccer], the application will
- search for all pages that contain the words "baseball" and "soccer."
- OR searches
- To search for archived news pages that contain at least
- one of the keywords entered, type in the keywords,
- separated by a plus.
- Example
- If you enter [baseball+soccer], the application will search
- for all archive pages that contain either the word
- "baseball" or the word "soccer."
- NOT searches
- To exclude a specific keyword, add a hashtag before the keyword.
- Example
- If you enter [baseball#soccer], the application will search
- for all archive pages that contain the word
- “baseball”, but not the word “soccer”.
- Compound search words
- Use, parentheses to create a compound search.
- Example
- If you enter Olympics+(Games#professional),
- the application will search for all pages that contain the
- word "Games," but not "professional," or "Olympics".

- And: A "*" will be added to the search term.
- Or: A "+" will be added to the search term.
- Help: A help box will be displayed., providing further guidance on searching for keywords.
- Publication Date
- Searching a specific date
- Select "On" and enter the target year/month from the pull-down
- menus, and the target date from the calendar.
- Searching a date range
- Select "Between" and enter the starting date of the range from the
- pull-down menus and calendar on the left, and the ending date from
- the pull-down menus and calendar on the right.
- Note:
- ・ If you search for a personal name, put the name in quotations.
- In this case, a space will be added after the name.
- Example
- "Michael Jackson ", "Yukio Mishima "
- Option
- Day of week
- This allows you to narrow the search to specific days of the week.
- Issue
- This allows you to narrow the search to specific types of issues.
- Page
- This allows you to narrow the search to specific news page ranges. Enter the starting and ending page numbers in the fields provided.
- Publication
- This allows you to narrow the search to specific titles. (The Japan Times' name changed several times over the years.)

*In the event that there are over 100,000 search results, the last page cannot be displayed.
